Top 10 Strategy Games of the 20th Century

Strategy games have historically been a product of the PC and this list reflects that. From the early days of the genre to the present the PC is the undisputed king of strategy. For the titles that secured a spot in the Top 10 list for the PC I've decided to include the box art instead of the description and video. If you'd like to see them then just click on over HERE. If you're looking for more modern strategy games check out the Top 10 Strategy Games of the 21st Century.

10
Entrepreneur (1997) - Start your own business and compete against others for market share. Sounds like a snoozefest but I tore this demo up. Too bad it never got a proper release and ad campaign.

9. Civilization II (1996) - This is where the series really seemed to go in the right direction. Allowing for more customization really opened up the game.

8. Theme Hospital (1997) - A quirky hospital building game. It sounds a more boring than it is I promise. This game game is really a personal favorite.

7. Starcraft (plus Brood War) (1998) - Still boasting 1 million plus players on battle.net (mostly in Korea) Starcraft showed that balancing the races didn't mean making them identical.

6. Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (1999) - This game bested the original in almost every way and even changed things up enough to make it seem complete fresh.

5. Total Annihilation (1997) - Considered by many to be the greatest RTS of all time, I just wasn't into it as much as others but man its STILL fun today so there's definately something to be said for it.

4. Command & Conquer (1995)

3. Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars
(1996)

2. Command & Conquer: Red Alert
(1996)

1. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness (plus Beyond the Dark Portal)
(1994)
