Top 10 Genesis Games

Sega's first uber-popular console gave the Big N a run for its money and some would say Sega ended up the short-lived winner. There shear quantity of quality games couldn't be contained by a mere Top 10. If you'd like more check out my list of 20 Other Great Genesis Games.

10
Mickey Mania (Platform, 1994) - So you may think this is a little too juvenile but seriously this pushed the cartoon style graphics of the 16-bit generation and was tons of fun to boot.

9. Mortal Kombat II (Fighting, 1993) - More characters than the original and more blood. What's not to like.

8. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (Sports, 1994) - Just like the first but twice the characters and even more hidden characters. It's always fun to have Clinton dunk over Gore.

7. Aladdin (Platform, 1993) - Way different that its SNES counterpart. This Genesis version was made by Shiny instead of Capcom and was actually fun.

6. Earthworm Jim (Platform, 1994) - The 90's were a crazy time and nothing shows that better than this game. And when you get done go straight on to the 2nd which is more of the same great goofiness.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Platform, 1994) - Falling just short of being the best Sonic game, Sonic 3 upped the graphical pizazz and introduced us to Knuckles.

4. Vectorman (Platform, 1995) - Nearing the end of the Genesis' life-cycle, Vectorman, composed of floating orbs, shot orbs at other orb baddies resulting in incredibly smooth and orb-like gameplay. The sequel wasn't bad either.

3. Beyond Oasis (RPG, 1995) - Apparently no one but me played this action RPG. It had combo moves similar to Street Fighter, it had 4 elemental magics, it had a huge world to explore and tons of secrets. Give it a try and you won't regret it.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Platform, 1992) - The game that sold more Genesi than any other title. Full of speed and attitude and little else. If you don't know what this is about then pick it up and play immediately.

1. Phantasy Star IV (RPG, 1995) - One of the most perfect games ever. Graphics are top notch with cinematic type conversations playing out through comic style boxes. The story is long and complex but not so hard to follow that you get lost. There are lots of side-quests if you feel like taking a break from the main quest-line. There are tons of characters to join your party. There are moments when you think the game is over only to realize you're only about a quarter of the way through. This game defines epic RPG.
