Sony one the last console bout with the PSX and they were back to show it wasn't a fluke. The PS2 had some of the greatest games in history. The GameCube showed that Nintendo was living 10 years ago and the Xbox just couldn't get the games.
10 Resident Evil 4 (Survival Horror, 2005) - It may have been a GameCube "exclusive" but RE4 made its way around the block. This version had several extras lacking in the original. Oh and the big new feature introduced to the series is the ability to actually make the character move where you want him. Insightful.
9. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (Platform, 2001) - Nearly every time someone says a genre is dead a game comes along and reinvigorates it. That was the case here where it ushered in a whole slew of quality platformers.
8. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Action, 2001) - The wait for this game seemed as long as the ending cinematics to the game actually were. Great game but could have done without the convoluted story. The first was perfect.
7. SSX Tricky (Sports, 2001) - A remake of the original this time with an added Tricky meter that filled up as you did tricks. That little addition really made this game that much more fun.
6. Katamari Damacy (Action, 2004) - Wow! Now this is original gaming. A few hours of this and you'll look around your apartment and wonder if you could roll that junk up.
5. Burnout 3: Takedown (Racing, 2004) - Usually its a bad thing when you wreck. Here it was a great thing.
4. Kingdom Hearts (RPG, 2002) - Who knew Disney and Square would go together so well. I certainly pegged this as a flop. Thank goodness I'm not always right.
3. Gran Turismo 4 (Racing, 2005) - Bringing back the cars that we missed in GT3. GT4 shows us what the PS2 was capable of.
2. God of War (Action, 2005) - Considered by some to be the last great game on the PS2 (that honor goes to its sequel). God of War is Devil May Cry on steroids.
1. Final Fantasy XII (RPG, 2006) - Man we got scared for nothing. FFXII made a lot of changes to the series. Namely you could avoid fighting monsters and the battle system could be automated. Did it ruin the game like we thought it would? Not in the slightest.
